Have you ever wondered which Umbria wines are most famous? Umbria is a central region in Italy, rich in natural and artistic beauty with Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio, Lake Trasimeno and Marmore Falls. Let’s discover together the most renowned Umbria wines and which to choose for the project adopts a vineyard.
Umbrian red wines: how to choose the most suitable
The protagonists of the Umbrian wine scene are Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Syrah. The great lines of Umbrian red wines are divided into two great groups, on the one hand Sagrantino di Montefalco, structured and powerful Umbrian red wines, which require many years of aging to soften and fully reach their aromatic potential, on the other hand wines made from Sangiovese, such as Umbria IGT or some DOCG, more fruity and fragrant.
Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG is considered the symbol wine of Umbria, it is a full-bodied wine, with aroma of ripe berries, tobacco and spices. Montefalco Rosso DOC, produced with Sangiovese and Sagrantino is a fruity, soft and elegant wine. Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG, fruit of the union of Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero and Ciliegiolo is a structured wine with aromas of black fruit, blackberry, marasca cherry and hints of violet. Assisi Rosso DOC, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, has fruity notes. Colli Perugini Rosso DOC, fruit of Sangiovese Umbrian grapes, is a fruity and pleasant wine.

Adopt a vineyard: white Umbrian wines
The white Umbrian wines, sons of the hills and valleys of this beautiful region, are considered among the best of our culture. Umbria is characterized by a hilly environment, rich in greenery and a continental climate that is perfect for planting vines.
These Umbrian white wines are characterized by intense flavors that amaze for their permanence on the palate and excellent for different types of combinations. Grechetto Umbro is the undisputed prince white wine of this region, together with Trebbiano, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio.
Chardonnay grapes, originating from France, produce a splendid straw-yellow beverage with a round taste, with a complex bouquet and rich aromas. Grechetto umbro is a white wine with an intense and persistent taste on the palate, with an organoleptic quality that recalls exotic fruit and yellow peach.
Umbria wine producers: adopt a vineyard with UFarmer
Among the Umbrian producers selected by UFarmer for the project adopts a vineyard we find Blasi Cantina and Madrevite.
Blasi Cantina – adopts a vineyard with UFarmer
Blasi Cantina, located in the town of Umbertide, in Umbria, is a project that has been handed down for generations. The production process of Umbria wines of Blasi Cantina takes place in two distinct and complementary environments, the vinification and fermentation take place in the modern technological Cellar built in 2017, while the aging and aging take place in the historic Winery, made in 1742, using old restored barrels. Cantina Blasi’s mission is to produce quality wines, also using varieties of grapes not typical of Umbria, but considered ideal to balance the character of the wines. Cantina Blasi belongs to a network of wineries that promote “ethical viticulture”, respecting traditions, values, land and people related to the world of wine.
For the project adopts a vineyard, Blasi Cantina proposes “1972 IGP Brut“, a Spumante Brut wine produced with Chardonnay and Trebbiano Spoletino grapes, straw yellow with notes of ripe yellow fruit, citrus, acacia flowers and bread crust; “Rhino IGP Umbria Syrah“made with 100% Syrah grapes, an intense red wine, which ages for 18 months in French oak barrels, developing aromas of ripe black fruit and oriental spices; “Raffa IGP Umbria Bianco“, a white Umbria wine produced with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes, with a pleasant scent and a full, round and full-bodied taste, perfect for long aperitifs and dinners with friends.

Madrevite – adopts a vineyard with UFarmer
Madrevite, located in the municipality of Castiglione del Lago, between Umbria and Tuscany, is a company that has been producing wine for three generations and covers 60 hectares, 11 of which are dedicated to vineyards and 5 to olive groves. The name Madrevite indicates an ancient tool used by Umbrian winemakers to fix the door to the barrels full of wine, symbolizing the deep link between tradition and modern agronomic practices. The grapes are harvested by hand, the spontaneous fermentation, without the addition of yeast, is carried out in the modern cellar, built in 2017, with steel tanks and temperature control. The aging rooms house concrete barrels, large wooden barrels and small French oak barrels, to obtain a perfect aging of the wines.
“C’osa – Trasimeno DOC Gamay del Trasimeno Riserva” is the proposal of Madrevite to adopts a vineyard, a wine produced entirely with Gamay del Trasimeno, one of the most important types of grapes of Umbria. This wine is the result of the great dedication of his grandfather Zino, who in the seventies grafted the ancient cuttings of a secular vineyard. “C’Osa – Transimeno DOC Gamay del Trasimeno Riserva” is a fragrant and elegant wine thanks to the use of sapid and crunchy grapes.
