The wine of Puglia Primitivo di Manduria owes its name to the Latin term primativus, that is “early”, precisely because the grapes of this wine ripen before the others and in August the harvest can begin. It was the Illyrians, ancient population of Croatia, who brought this wine of Puglia, where it adapted to perfection. The first certain historical traces of the red wine of Puglia Primitivo date back to the eighteenth century, when Don Francesco Filippo Indelicati, an ecclesiastic of Gioia del Colle, selected it and baptized it with the name of Primitivo. The wine of Puglia Primitivo is often grown as a sapling, with a very low production but of extreme quality. It is a very long-lived type of wine, in fact, it is possible to find wines older than 80 years, still in production. The red wine of Puglia Primitivo has an intense and deep ruby color, with violet nuances that tend to garnet with aging, has a nose of red fruits such as black cherry, blackberries, plums, and floral notes of violet. To the taste this wine of Puglia, thanks to the period of aging in wood, shows spicy hints, such as cinnamon, cocoa, black pepper and licorice.

Producers of Puglia wine in the past gave importance to quantity, today they are moving their goal towards a higher quality that today distinguishes the wine of Puglia.

Among the producers of UFarmer of wine of Puglia we find Pietregiovani and Carlo Attanasio Wine.

Pietregiovani was founded in 2009 through a project that aims to celebrate the richness of the Apulian land under the guidance of Fabio Pietrogiovanni. The company, immersed in the hilly countryside of Acquaviva delle Fonti, in the province of Bari, is dedicated to the processing of vineyards with commitment to the environment, adopting agronomic practices that respect the territory and its biodiversity.

With about 9 hectares of olive groves, vineyards and arable land, Pietregiovani wants to keep alive the ancient local agricultural traditions, certifying each product with organic certification.

There are several proposals for Puglia wine, such as “Primitivo Etichetta Nera”, a ruby red wine with hints of cherry, black cherry, chocolate and pepper, a dry Puglia wine with good drinkability; the other proposal of Puglia red wine is “Primitivo White Label”a ruby red wine from Puglia, with hints of cherries and figs, perfect with robust dishes on every occasion. Carlo Attanasio Wine is the other Apulian proposal of UFarmer. The Azienda Agricola Attanasio has over time analyzed the study of several processing schools, including the Piedmontese, French, Spanish and Portuguese, managing to shape international wines that retain their native authenticity. This farm has a vineyard of 53 hectares, developed in a temperate climate, thanks to the proximity of the Adriatic and Ionian coasts and constant exposure to the sun. The peculiarity of this reality is exclusively in monovarietal wines, produced from autochthonous grapes.

Carlo Attanasio’s proposals are “Negroamaro Azurìo”, a wine from Puglia that is the result of the late harvest of the grapes, the long vinification at controlled temperature and the extraordinary complexity of the French oak barriques of medium toasting. Carlo Attanasio also proposes “Primitivo Blue Royal”, a red wine from Puglia produced with Primitivo grapes, a full-bodied, round and balanced Apulian wine with evident fruity notes.
