Between Umbria and Tuscany, in the municipality of Castiglione del Lago, Madrevite is born, an interpreter of an invaluable and deeply identity-rich heritage.
In the picturesque hills surrounding Lake Trasimeno and Lake Chiusi, in the charming municipality of Castiglione del Lago, Madrevite stands tall. A tale of three generations of winemakers passionately preserving the profound connection between man and nature.
Our journey began in 2003 when Nicola decided to breathe new life into the family estate, replanting part of his grandfather Zino’s vineyards dating back to 1978. Gamay del Trasimeno, Trebbiano Spoletino, Grechetto, Sangiovese, and Syrah became the protagonists of this new adventure, true interpreters of an invaluable identity heritage.
But why Madrevite? Madrevite, an ancient tool used by Umbrian winemakers to secure the bung in barrels filled with wine, symbolizes the deep bond between past traditions and modern agricultural and cellar practices that constitute the essence of our winemaking.
Our estate spans 60 hectares, with 11 dedicated to vineyards, 5 to olive groves, and the rest to woods and fallow land. A border territory between Umbria and Tuscany, perched on a promontory on the western shore of Lake Trasimeno, offers a unique microclimate with mild winters, hot and breezy summers, and good temperature variations ensuring freshness and longevity to the wine.
Grapes are harvested as a handmade art, and our modern cellar, built in 2017 with stainless steel tanks and temperature control, houses the beating heart of spontaneous fermentations, without added yeasts. The aging rooms host historical cement vats and large wooden barrels, along with small French oak barriques, where wines refine for months, ready for tasting.
Our pioneering experiments began in 2008, vinifying in purity to unveil the intrinsic qualities of the grape and bring out the complexity of the terroir. Our wines are more than a product, they are an honest tale of the love and dedication we put into our daily work.
